The Republic of Benin is located in Western Africa, bordering Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Benin was under the Marxist-Lennist Dictatorship between 1972-1991. This country is overpopulated with poverty as roughly half of the entire population lives below the international poverty line.

This West African country is known for its rare architectural and cultural heritage. Porto Novo is the capital of the country. The cultural life at Benin is greatly influenced by France. Whether you visit its ancient forests or its surrounding cities or towns, you will discover how cordial the people are and enjoy their hospitality. North Benin is the home to some of the best wildlife areas in West Africa like Pendjari and W National parks. It is also popular for the World Heritage Site at Abomey. Cotonou is known for its lagoons. There are good beaches at Grand Popo and Ouidah. The country also has lots of grasslands, waterfalls and hills that add to its beautiful landscape. You can even choose Safaris to traverse the forests. Don't miss out on those cheetahs, hippos and crocodiles as well. The night life is very great during the numerous festivals and events that keep happening at Benin.
The prices are quite low and will be affordable by most individuals. It would be a good idea to hire a guide, who is knowledgeable of the land. The tour guide would travel along with you, translate when required, and highlight everything this land has to offer.

Transportation
Getting around Benin is not very difficult. If you are planning to travel across the country, hire a driver during your stay. The transportation prices in Benin are negotiable. You may want to check out the busses that connect to the larger cities of Benin if you are travelling in a group, while most destinations can be reached with a car. Benin has about 600km of rail track and trains run from Cotonou to Pobé, Ouidah, and Parakou.
