Overview
The Republic of Mozambique is located in southeastern Africa. Originally explored by Vasco da Gama in 1498, Mozambique is bordered by Tanzania to the North; Malawi and Zambia to the Northwest; Zimbabwe to the west; Swaziland and South Africa in the Southwest; and the Indian Ocean to the East.
With an upbeat atmosphere, overflowing markets, and a 2,500 kilometer coastline waiting to be discovered, Mozambique is definitely one of the best vacation destinations in Africa.

Mozambique is one of Africa's greatest hot-spots, with stunningly beautiful beaches, excellent diving, and magical offshore islands. There are many great options for nature lovers who would like to explore and discover everything that Mozambique has to offer. Some of the really popular attractions and activities available include scuba diving, fishing, snorkeling, and going on cruises and dolphin tours.
Maputo, the energetic waterside capital and largest city in the country, has many things to offer to its visitors. A few places of interest in Maputo are the National Art Museum, Jardim Tunduru, and the Museum of the Revolution.
The historic town of Inhambane has many fascinating architectural sites and is considered to be the prettiest town in Mozambique. Gorgeous white sand dunes, long arcs of beach, and diving with the manta rays are some of the most appealing places and things to do for visitors.
The Cathedral and Museu Nacional de Etnologia are some sites worth visiting in the city of Nampula. Archipélago de Bazaruto is the ultimate tropical paradise with incomparably turquoise waters and shoals of colourful fish. The cool, dense forests of Montes Chimanimani shelter secluded valleys and rich traditional cultures. Due to a protracted guerrilla war, these attractions were inaccessible for many years, but the dark times have passed and now Mozambique is one of Africa's rising stars.

Though getting around Mozambique takes time, the coastal panoramas and sheer adventure of travel make the journey worthwhile. The most popular accommodations in Mozambique are the great resort style hotels that are available to tourists in most of the major cities.
There are also some great opportunities for people interested in camping. It is quite inexpensive and an adventure all its own. During the Christmas and New Year holidays, around Easter and in August, the southern resorts fill up with vacationing South Africans.
