Overview
The Kingdom of Cambodia or Kampuchea is a Southeast Asian country, and Phnom Penh is its capital. It is bordered by Thailand in northwest, Laos in the northeast, Vietnam in east and southeast, and Gulf of Thailand in the south. Mekong River and Tonlé Sap are the two major rivers of this country.
It was on November 9, 1953, Cambodia gained independence from France. But after that, the country has experienced several wars and lost many lives. Peace has come to this beautiful yet tragic land after three decades of war, and the Cambodian people have opened their arms to the world. Tourism has truly taken off, yet a journey here remains an adventure as much as a holiday. Modesty is advised throughout Cambodia as far as dress is concerned but knee high shorts and the likes are very much acceptable.

Transportation
The chief mode of transportation in Cambodia is bus and truck, but the Mekong Express has the best reputation for speed and comfort. There are also motorcycle taxis available for transportation. The charge for this is generally around $2 in the town. Boat services are available between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc.
