China

China is a beautiful nation with picturesque plains, snow-capped mountains, and lush forests. It is also the country of one of the world's oldest civilizations. China's historical sites and attractions draw thousands of tourists each year. The rich culture and traditions of imperial China are well-preserved today are a wonderful sight to behold.

Beijing

Beijing is the capital of China and located to the north of the country. Beijing is home to an incredible cultural display of artistic and historical artifacts, which are exhibited in more than 50 museums. While folk traditions flourish in theatres, cultural centers offer fascinating demonstrations of centuries' old art and craft making. Beijing also offers delicious dining in exotic settings. However, the city is best known for its world-famous tourist attractions. Beijing is home to the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square.

Tibet

Tibet is located to the west of China proper and north of the Himalayas. The region has been called the "Roof of the World," as has an average elevation of 16,000 feet. Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world, is visible from Tibet. If you plan on travelling to Tibet, you should check out the Buddhist monasteries, the Potala Palace (the residence of the Dalai Lama), the Jokhang Temple, and the ruins of the Guge Kingdom.

Macau

The first and the last European colony in China, Macau has a very visible colonial history. The place was settled and ruled by the Portuguese. Throughout the streets of Macau, European architecture stands next to Chinese buildings. Although known for gambling, Macau is extremely rich in tourist attractions as well. Popular spots include Baia da Praia Grande, the Macau History Museum, Kun Iam Tong Temple, Lin Fong Miu Temple, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial House, Maritime Museum, Border Gate, Taipa Island, and Dom Pedro Theater.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is situated on the southeast coast of China. It is made of up three islands named Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, and New Territories. Hong Kong was initially a trading port. It was colonized by the British and today is an international financial center. Hong Kong has a breathtaking skyline and plenty of natural beauty. Only about 25 percent of the island's landmass is developed and approximately 40 percent of the remaining land is made up of country parks and nature reserves.

Shanghai

This city is one of the largest metropolitan cities in the world. This 700-year old city was once the financial capital of the Far East regions. Shanghai became the world's largest cargo port in 2005 and is now an emerging tourist destination in China.

There is so much to see and learn in this exotic country. Although Beijing, Tibet, Macau, Hong Kong, and Shanghai are all fascinating places to visit, wherever you go in China, you will find plenty to see and do. The Chinese are quite hospitable and friendly. However, it is wise to know some of their customs and traditions before you plan a trip.
