India

India is a country in South Asia bordered by the Bay of Bengal to the east; the Indian Ocean to the south; the Arabian Sea to the west; Pakistan to the northwest; China, Nepal and Bhutan to the north; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the northeast. The history of India goes back over an astonishing 5,000 years. India gained independence from the British in 1947 and is sometimes called a sub-continent.

Different people, customs, traditions and food make India a very diverse country. In India you can see a variety of land forms - the snowy Himalayas, dry deserts, fertile delta regions, thick forests and beautiful coastal areas. India has something to offer to every visitor who comes to the country. Though the official language of India is Hindi, many people also speak English.

In India there is no dearth of activities and attractions. You can visit the Taj Mahal at Agra, near New Delhi, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The country is dotted with temples, mosques and churches, making it the perfect place for sightseeing. The palaces in India are also something to behold and are scattered throughout the country. Agra Fort, Ajanta and Ellora Caves, Elephanta Caves, Fatehpur Sikiri, Great Living Chola Temples, and numerous sun temples are some of the renowned heritage sites you can visit while in India.

No trip to India would be complete without checking out its awesome wildlife. Elephants, tigers, rhinos and many more species grace the lands. There are many wild life sanctuaries and natural parks to visit. You can also stay in the forests and see wildlife up close.

You can find plenty of accommodations in India and hotels are available for every budget. Do not worry about getting around India because it has a wide transportation system. The Indian railways and roadways connect almost all the places in the country you will want to visit. You can also take trains or buses to most parts of the country while airplanes connect the major cities. Taxis and auto rickshaws are also available for travelling within the cities.

New Delhi

New Delhi is the capital of India and one of the largest commercial centers in the country. There are many different places you can visit while in the city. Some of the popular are Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, Lotus Temple, Jama Masjid, Qutub Minar, and the India Gate. Many festive events like Roshanara Festival, Shalimar Festival, Qutub Festival, and Winter Carnival are conducted throughout the year in the city. Take part of them to have fun and to get a flavor of New Delhi and India.

Mumbai

Mumbai is the financial and commercial capital of India and has one of the major ports in the country. While in Mumbai you can visit the Prince of Wales Museum. This building has been built based on the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture and houses arts, crafts and paintings. You can also go to the Jehangir Art Gallery to view painting exhibitions. Nehru Planetarium and the Nehru Science Center are a couple of the other fascinating places to visit in the city.
