Nepal is located in the Asian continent with India to the south and China to the north. This federal democratic republic is well known for peace and is considered a sacred place by the Hindus. The nation of Nepal has a diverse and varied landscape; it has small humid plains in the south and the Himalayan Mountains in the northern part of the country.

Nepal has some of the most remote and beautiful landscapes in the world. Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, is located on the border between Nepal and Tibet. Seven of the 10 highest mountains in the world are located in the Himalayan Mountain Ranges in Nepal.

The country has five unique climate zones: the tropical region, the temperate zone, the cold zone, the sub arctic zone, and the arctic zone. It also has the typical five seasons that are experienced in this region of Asia, which are winter, spring, summer, monsoon, and autumn.

There are many hotels and resorts available in the country for your stay. Busses and planes are the main modes of transportation in the country. They do not have facilities to rent cars, but you can hire them with drivers. One of the easiest ways of going to places of interest in the country is to join an organized tour

Kathmandu

Situated in the heart on the Himalayas, Kathmandu is the capital city and the largest city in Nepal. The city of Kathmandu is at the elevation of 1400 feet and has a population of about 700,000 people. The city is also known as Kantipur. The best time to visit this city would be between March and April or in October/November. Many people, who want to climb the Himalayas, usually come here to begin their ascent on the mountain.

When you visit this city you can visit the World Heritage Sites of Swayambhu temple, Changu Narayan, Bouddhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You can also visit Thimi, Bhaktapur, Balaju, Budhanilkantha, and Patan Durbar Square in Katmandu. On the banks of the holy Bagmati River in Kathmandu, is the temple of Lord Papshupati, another name of Shiva, who is believed to be the protector of animals. This place is considered to be very sacred by the Hindus.

Himalayas

Himalayas have some of the highest mountain peaks in the world. The Himalayan Mountains that are located in Nepal include the Lhotse Mountain, Makalu Mountain, Manaslu Mountain, Annapurna Mountain, Dhaulagiri Mountain, Kanchenjunga Mountain, and the Cho Oyu Mountains. The highest peak, the Mount Everest, is located in the Himalayas. The best time to go trekking in these mountains would be between October and November. If you are interested in mountain climbing, then the best time would be in February and March.

There are plenty of activities for adventure seekers in the Himalayan Mountains. Some of the popular activities include hiking, mountain climbing, trekking, river rafting, camping, rock climbing, hang gliding, and rappelling. Trained guides are available who can guide you in your trekking and hiking trips. For those who wish to enjoy their leisure in the mountains can go on wild life tours and bird watching expeditions.
