Manitoba Vacations
Overview
Manitoba, a huge Canadian province, is a splendid location to forget your tiring work schedule and an apt choice for a very romantic and intimate weekend with your loved one or a surprise family vacation. Many of the locations in Manitoba are designed to cater to the business community that wants a quiet setting away from home for just a night or two. Locations are conveniently situated quite near desired scenic spots or events, making it easily accessible.
The province of Manitoba stretches over 250,000 square miles of North America, with a rich history that reaches back to the Ice Age. It is believed that Manitoba was home to inhabitants who fashioned spears and arrowheads and survived the glacial times. Explorers such as Henry Hudson and Jens Munk created history by sailing across what is known today as the Hudson Bay. Affectionately referred to as Rupert's Land, it became the property of Canada by concession in 1869.
Activities & Attractions
Manitoba is a different world altogether. There are three lakes: Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba, and Lake Winnipegosis, and the province has the largest saltwater coastline bordering Hudson Bay. There are also many sites for wildlife like national parks, gardens, zoos, and other sites for historical and architectural importance are the museums, ruins, forts, and galleries.
It possesses the glamour of festivities and music that would surely set your feet tapping. Some of the best festivals that entertain and educate visitors include the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba and the Folklarama in Winnipeg. Folklarama is a celebration of the Canadian ethnic communities with people coming from various parts of the world. Various activities such as enjoying water sports on the huge lakes of Manitoba, canoeing, relaxing at the Grand Beach on Lake Winnipeg, walking across the River Souris on Canada's longest free suspension foot bridge, sail boarding, windsurfing and sailing form the part and parcel of the region. Fishing along the Red River is an important part of tourism.
Lodging
Manitoba offers a wide selection of vacation accommodations ranging from standard class hotels to guesthouses and farm holiday camps at a very reasonable price. Widespread camping facilities are also available in the region. A number of companies do arrange fully equipped motor homes (known as recreational vehicles, or RVs, in Canada).
Transportation
Since many of the vacation accommodations are located near the main attraction centers and in the various areas around it, transportation is easily accessible. While choosing accommodations near such features, transportation is often available by shuttle and taxi. Aviation facilities and seaports are also made available in Manitoba. The road service is one of the best in the region. Local authorities also provide a wide network of bus services in Winnipeg by the Winnipeg Transit for a reasonable fare.
