In 1629, a charter made Nova Scotia a part of Scotland. After the French and Indian War, it became a British colony. It was not until after 1868 that Nova Scotia officially became a province of Canada.

Nova Scotia has a rich variety of attractions and events. Over 700 festivals are held throughout the year. Some of the best festivals and attractions in the province include the Bay of Fundy, the Nova Scotia Festival, the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, the Art gallery of Nova Scotia, the Fortress of Louisburg, and the Halifax Citadel. For the musically inclined, the Symphony Nova Scotia puts on extraordinary performances year after year. It is one of the finest chamber orchestras in Canada. Those visiting the area for the first time will be struck by the amazing cultural heritage of the region. The national historic sites in Nova Scotia are stunning to behold. There are also a number of award-winning vineyards scattered all about the province.

The transportation facilities in Nova Scotia are excellent. The province is divided into seven tourism regions. To travel from place to place, you can use Nova Scotia's public transit, shuttle service, ferries, motor coaches, taxis, or trains.
