Saskatchewan Vacations
Saskatchewan Vacations
Overview
If you're looking for a vacation that offers you a taste of the town, Saskatchewan may not be the place for you. Much of the Saskatchewan region is only accessible by air, so those who are not faint of heart or of snow will find this to be the best vacation locale. Alberta is to the west of Saskatchewan, while North Dakota and Montana are to the south, Manitoba is to the east, and the Northwest Territories are to the north. When you look out into the Saskatchewan landscape, you will notice a prairie setting with wild forests and rivers. The Cypress Hills are the highest hills in the area and offer a breathtaking background to pictures. Much of the land is treeless, but is at times, broken by hills that catch the rays of the setting sun.
Activities & Attractions
Nature is the main attraction in Saskatchewan, and that's what you will find when you head out into the land. Located in a prairie province in Canada, Saskatchewan is known for the Prince Albert National Park of Canada and offers those who enjoy the wilderness a chance to really feel as though they are away from the busy pace of their regular life. From moose to wolves, caribou and deer, it's hard to go out into the wilderness without seeing some wild thing in the distance, and often, up close. For those who enjoy bird watching, Saskatchewan offers the Network Reserve with over 300 species of birds, including many rare hawks and falcons. The Wanuskewin Heritage Park is a must-see wild animal park. Another must-see is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Centennial Museum & heritage Centre.
Those who like to ice fish will also find Saskatchewan to be a good vacation place. The fishing season lasts from May to March, so you have plenty of time to try to catch one of the 68 different species of fish in the area. Winter sports like skiing and ice hockey are offered to those who dare to brave the Saskatchewan wilderness. Golf is also available for those who like to swing a club.
Lodging
What's nice about Saskatchewan, among so many other things, is the hospitality you will encounter from the time you set foot in a hotel. No matter if you choose an expensive four star hotel or a bed and breakfast inn, you will have a warm smile to greet you at the end of your day. You can even pitch a tent in the wild of Saskatchewan, if you're brave enough to face the cold. There are spa retreat areas that will help whisk away any tension you might have. Log cabins are also available, offering you a rustic retreat.
Transportation
Though getting into Saskatchewan might be tricky, getting around the area is not. There are a number of bus routes you can take to get to nearly every part of the city. Or you might want to rent a car if you want to travel on your own schedule. Some people also like to use taxis, but they can be hard to find and over quite expensive. In the warmer months, you will also see many of the locals moving from one place to another on bikes.
