Anguilla Vacations

Overview

Anguilla is one of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean Islands. It is a British overseas territory and its capital city is The Valley. The first settlers in Anguilla were Amerindian tribes that had migrated from South America. Other early settlers include pioneers from Antigua and Barbados of European descent. Anguilla has a tropical dry climate, with little temperature variation through the year.

Activities & Attractions

Anguilla is an extremely popular vacation destination and offers incredible attractions and activities to its visitors. Some of the most popular attractions are the seven major marine parks that you find around the island. They are ideal for day activities for the entire family. Some of the other popular activities include water activities like diving, parasailing, windsurfing, and water skiing. If you enjoy fishing, you can go fishing with guides who will take you out to some of the best fishing spots in the island. Visit the western end of Meads Bay for an enjoyable swim with the dolphins.

Anguilla offers many opportunities for hiking. In some places the island is so narrow that as you walk, you can see both the coasts. You can also go horse riding on the beaches or ride a mountain bike on the numerous trails in the island.

Fountain Cavern is a popular tourist destination. It is a natural wonder and an archeological site. When you go 50 feet down the cave, you can see two fresh water pools and Amerindian Petro glyphs or rock carvings. The cave also has a spectacular stalagmite which is carved in the shape of "Jocahu," the God of Taino Indians. This place is believed to be the place of worship of the Amerindians.

Lodging

Most travelers to the island usually stay in the luxury beach resorts that are very common on the island. However, if you are looking for a slightly quieter place, you can rent a private beachside villa. Whatever your needs are, Anguilla will definitely have something to accommodate you and your family. Some of the well booked hotels on the island country are: Meads Bay Beach Villas, Carimar Beach Club, Rendezvous Bay Hotel, Covecastles, and Cap Juluca.

Transportation

Most vacationers rent a car to travel to the places of interest. This mode of transport is comfortable and offers the visitors flexibility in their sightseeing. Another option is to utilize public transportation. Busses and shuttle services take you to most places of attraction in the country. You can also hire taxis to take you to sightseeing spots.
