Barbados is an independent island nation that lies east of the Caribbean Sea in the western Atlantic Ocean and is considered part of the Lesser Antilles. The Portuguese were early inhabitants of the island and named it Barbados. The name means bearded and it is thought to be a reference to the hanging roots of the famous bearded Fig tree. Barbados has a tropical climate due to trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean that help maintain the mild temperatures. The island is also home to excellent restaurants, night life and other fun activities you will never forget.

There are many fascinating attractions available to people visiting Barbados. Some of the most popular are water sports that include snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, water skiing and sailing. Another popular destination is Ocean Park, a famous marine aquarium that displays beautiful local sea life. While in Barbados you can even explore the ocean in the Atlantis Submarine that features a night dive along with many adventurous activities.

Another great option for fun in Barbados is the great nightlife that is famous among travelers. There are many different night clubs, bars, live music venues, and dance halls that will anyone's needs when it comes to night life. Some other places to visit while in Barbados are Harrison's Cave, the Sea Eye, and St. Nicholas Abbey.

Transportation

However, when it comes to everyday living and basic necessities, many people will opt to walk or rent a bike as nearly everything you need is within walking distance. Car rentals are also available for travelers who wish to explore more of the Island on their own.
