Overview
The Cayman Islands are located in the Western Caribbean Sea. The islands are a British overseas territory and made up of several different islands including Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac. The Cayman Islands were spotted by Christopher Columbus on May 11, 1503 during his final voyage to the New World. The island was given its name by Sir Francis Drake when he visited this island in 1568. The word "Cayman" is taken from the Neo-Taino nation's term for alligator. The best time to visit the islands is between December and April.
