Nicaragua Vacations

Overview

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, encompassing over 50,000 square miles. It is bordered on the South by Costa Rica and to the north by Honduras. It has coastlines with both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

Though Nicaragua has been commonly known as a country with a lot of political upheaval and unrest in the past, the modern country of Nicaragua is rich in natural beauty and its people are a very open and welcoming group. In Nicaragua, tourism is given the upmost priority and visitors have a chance to mingle and exchange experiences with the Nicaraguans.

Activities & Attractions

Showcasing different types of buildings, Nicaragua is a dream site for those who enjoy diverse architecture. It reflects both the Spanish and French influences, as well as the varied native Indian cultures that are indigenous to the region. The Ortiz Gurdian Foundation Art Center displays a variety of paintings, art and sculptures. Some of the other art galleries in Nicaragua are Clara Oscuro Art Gallery and Grenada's Art Gallery.

The coastline along the Southern Pacific region features a large number of sandy coves and deserted beaches that are unspoiled and open for exploration. Montelimar, San Juan del Sur, La Flor and La Boquita are some of the famous beaches in Nicaragua. Nicaragua has a large stretch of rainforest, which is found to the north of the Amazon River basin, and the country has worked hard to set up 78 state nature reserves, parks and natural wildlife sanctuaries that work to protect roughly 17 percent of the total area of the nation.

The coastline features a number of Nicaragua cities, each of them with their own flavor and providing opportunities for scuba diving, surfing and a number of other sailing and boating endeavors. From colonial tours in ruins and former settlements to modern museums and other attractions, the Nicaraguan cities offer you a large number of activities to enjoy.

Lodging

Scheduling a vacation to Nicaragua is reasonable as the low number of tourists and the cost of living in the Central American nation keeps the exchange rate favorable to the average tourist. From small huts let out in the rural areas and small villages of Nicaragua to posh hotels in the contemporary cities, you can find a wide range of lodging facilities in Nicaragua.

Transportation

Nicaragua has thousands of kilometers of roadways. There are regular transport services from the country to different parts of Central America, the U.S. and Europe. From highways to mountain passes, Nicaragua has a large transportation network. However, it is very difficult to spot highways with more than three lanes.
