The Republic of Iceland does not have a history like many of the other European countries. Many attribute this to the fact that it was an island that was not found and capitalized on until later in history. It can still be traced back to times slightly before 1,000 AD, so it has an interesting history that many know little about. Iceland actually became its own commonwealth around this time, making it autonomous.
Activities & Attractions
Those who are going to Iceland are probably going to want to visit Reykjavik, the biggest city in the country. With a population of over 100,000, it has nearly one third of the population of the country as a whole. Reykjavik has a ton of attractions for the visitors. You can enjoy nature in its purest form in the city. Many people are intrigued by the amazing Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis. You can encounter some of the most exciting natural phenomena and get pleasure from the perfect Icelandic experience in the Blue Lagoon, the Gullfoss, and the Geysir tours.
If you are looking to have fun in Reykjavik, the nightlife is the way to go. The city actually has a thriving nightlife and bars or clubs are easily accessible when visiting the country. If these activities are not your cup of tea, you can find the National Museum of Iceland, and visit the University of Iceland.

Hotels and lodging facilities are available for every budget in Iceland. Hotel Reykjavik Centrum, the Center Hotel Thingholt, Hotel Edda, and Hotel Kea are some hotels that offer good amenities in Iceland.
Transportation
Those who are looking to get around the country of Iceland are going to want to make sure that they have their own mode of transportation. There is a large road that simply goes in a circle around the island. This passes through many of the biggest cities in the country, making it an easy way to actually get around. It is named as Route 1, and is 840 miles long. There is no rail system in the country, so it's really important to have your own transportation. There is, however, an international airport, as well as multiple national airports in various parts of the country.
