Luxembourg Vacations
Overview
Luxembourg is located in Western Europe between France and Germany. A founding member of the United Nations, European Union and NATO, Luxembourg has fought off numerous attackers through negotiation. It was not until World War II that it finally abandoned its beliefs on neutrality and joined hands with other allied nations in striking back against the Nazis during the Invasion of Normandy. Despite its small size, it has led some of the largest movements in modern world history and continues to lend its voice, experience and advice in international level conflicts.
Activities & Attractions
Considered one of the safest countries in the world, Luxembourg offers much to travelers, be it night or day. The museums in the country are worth a visit and the restaurants, which offer a soothing palate of French and Italian cuisine, are not to be missed. In fact, food in Luxembourg is considered to be the most enjoyable and healthiest in Europe.
If you are not interested in food, avoid the heat of summer by spending a bit of time walking or biking along the varied slices of cities in the country. Some other places of interest in Luxembourg are the Luxembourg City History Museum, Vianden Castle, Butterfly Garden, Musee d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, and the Victor Hugo House.
Lodging
Hotels, unfortunately, are relatively expensive in Luxembourg. This is largely due to the numerous international conferences and meetings carried out in the country year around. If you have time to spare and are looking forward to an inexpensive vacation, it may be best to stay on the outskirts of Luxembourg where the hotels are less expensive. You can easily take a bus back into Luxembourg at minimal cost.
Youth hostels are another bargain when compared to many of the hotels in Luxembourg. If you do not mind staying at more modest accommodations, this option might very well suit you. Check out the Web sites in the resources section below to get more details on the availability of hotels, resorts and other forms of lodging.
Transportation
With a moderate climate, trips to Luxembourg are enjoyable whether you travel by plane, car or train. If you wish to enjoy some of the beautiful sights the country has to offer, take a bus so you do not have to worry about driving. Bus lines running across the country are extensive and offer good prices in most locations.
Public transportation in Luxembourg is affordable in general, although in some of the popular tourist areas it can be a bit more expensive. If you have the time and inclination, walk around some of the cities and take in the many breathtaking views Luxembourg provides.
