Overview

Situated in central Europe, Poland has a long history dating back to the first century. It was first united as a country in the 10th century. Poland is a country which has attracted migrants from all over, including Germans, Jews, and Dutch. Because of the separations of the country by Russia, Prussia and Austria, Poland did not exist as a country for 123 years. In 1918, Poland began the trek back to becoming a country. Although the area has a bitter past, the natural beauty of Poland is astounding. It is a lovely country with awesome landscapes.

Activities & Attractions

There are plenty of sites and attractions for you to enjoy in Poland. There are many cultural attractions which include churches, basket making workshops, museums, and even some castle ruins. The architectural wonders in Poland, particularly in Karkow, were the home of many kings and royalty throughout the centuries. The place to be for singles when visiting Poland is Poznan, which is one of the oldest cities in Poland. The unique blend of gothic and baroque make Poznan a very interesting place to visit. The Historical Museum in Warsaw may interest you. There are 60 rooms in the museum and documents the entire history of Poland.

Another popular tourist attraction is the captivating and awe inspiring Stare Miasto, Old Town in Warsaw. Some say they feel as though they have traveled back to medieval times when visiting this wonder. In Old Town, there is also a Mermaid Monument which attracts a lot of tourist's attention. Although lost for several years, it is now back in its original spot in Old Town. Bird watching, cycling, and horseback riding are among popular activities in Poland.

Lodging

You can choose from a variety of lodging options available. Lodging fares are comparable with other European locations, but you can find hostels or look on the internet for private rooms or apartments for rent, which are often cheaper than the local hotels. Staying at a hotel in Poland was very inexpensive, long before, but that is not the case anymore. Checking ahead for other options may be the route you want to take as far as accommodations go.

Transportation

The public transport in Poland is very cheap, clean, and efficient. You can move around the city by car, bus, train, taxi, and bicycle. Busses are more comfortable for short distance travel. Many even travel by hitchhiking, which is acceptable in Poland. Travel doesn't normally move quickly in Poland, but waiting times aren't the worst either. You can even travel by bikes which are easily obtainable.
