Overview
Switzerland is a landlocked country with about 7.6 million people inhabiting the small alpine area. According to its per capita income, it is one of the richest countries of the world with Zurich and Geneva ranked as the first and second topmost cities enjoying the highest quality of life in the world.
It is bordered by Germany on its north, France on its west, Italy on its south, and Austria and Liechtenstein on its east. The area of the country is approximately 41,285 sq km with an average of 174 people dwelling per sq km. There is a great contrast in the population density of different regions. The mountainous southern regions of the country are very sparsely populated.
Some international organizations such as the Red Cross, the WTO (World Trade Organization), and one of the United Nation's European offices are located in Switzerland. The main languages spoken across the country include German, French, Italian, and Romansh. Swiss people are quite friendly and welcoming towards the tourists.

There are many attractions in this small country. Most of the attractions are located close to each other. Some of the top attractions include the Jungfrau Region, Chateau de Chillon in Montreux, Fasnacht Spring Carnival in Basel, Swiss National Park in Zernez, the Matterhorn in Zermatt, St. Moritz, Mt. Pilatus and St. Gallen.
Switzerland is known for its great skiing and mountain excursions. Both the Swiss people as well as the visitors enjoy these activities on the highest summits that the mountaineers from all over the world take over as a challenge. There are many renowned competitive events held in the country including activities such as the Haute Route trekking or the Patrouille des Glaciers race and they witness international participation.
Switzerland is also famous for watches, chocolates, cheese, and the Swiss Army knives.
