Baja California Vacations
Baja California Vacations
Overview
The Baja California peninsula is found off the west coast of mainland Mexico. It runs parallel to the coast, with the Gulf of California (also known as the Sea of Cortez) stretching between it and the mainland. Two beautiful states comprise Baja California: Baja California Norte (Northern) and Baja California Sur (Southern). It runs from Tijuana on the southern border of the United States to Cabo San Lucas at the tip of the peninsula. Baja California is home to some of Mexico's largest flora and fauna reserves. Its surrounding waters are rich with marine life, including whales that migrate to the area to breed. There are many resorts along the coast of Baja California that offer whale watching trips between the months of January and March.
Activities & Attractions
The single highway that runs along the entire length of Baja California has many interesting sites, starting with the border city of Tijuana. Tijuana offers some traditional Mexican entertainment like bullfighting and Jai Lai (a game that has been described as a mixture of basketball and lacrosse). More often, however, travelers find that Tijuana is a place for duty-free shopping, drinking, and dancing the night away. Tourists can also buy plenty of arts and crafts handmade by artisans from different parts of Mexico. Tijuana is a great place to begin a trip down to the quieter and more traditional areas of the Baja California peninsula. The city acts as the gateway to gorgeous resorts and beaches, which lie to the south of the state.
If you want a taste of some of the finest seafood and best wines in Mexico, check out the vineyards and resorts in Ensenada. Farther south in San Ignacio, travelers can enjoy a pleasant break from the heat of the Vizcaino Desert. There are fascinating caves with ancient paintings in this area. The peaceful port of La Paz is yet another idyllic place to spend a relaxing holiday. For those who enjoy the outdoors, you can snorkel in the city's clear waters alongside sea lions or scuba dive with sharks and mantas. Complete your trip through Baja California with a visit to Cabo San Lucas. The fishing, sandy beaches, and hospitality will draw you in and make you want to stay forever,
