Central Mexico Vacations
Tlaxcala, Puebla, Hidalgo and Morelos are the four states that comprise the Central Mexican region along with the Tehuacan Valley. This region has a variety of flora and fauna as well as mountain ranges. The "four sierras" are the Sierra de Pachuca Mountains, which are north of the Central Mexican region; the Sierra Nevada range, to its east; the Sierra de Ajusco, to its south; and the Sierra de las Cruces, to the west.
There is plenty to keep you busy in Central Mexico. The Balneario Temixco, formerly a sugar plantation dating back to the 16th century, is an aquatic park that has 15 swimming pools, 10 wading pools, water slides, a huge wave pool, a full bar, and the chance to go scuba diving. Most of the pools are natural springs or water diverted from a nearby river. There is also Las Estacas water theme park, where you kayak in a river or play a round of miniature golf.
If you drop by the region of Cuautla you will find Agua Hedionda, which is famous for the healing power of its sulfurous water. The state of Morelos has national parks that are well preserved and maintained like the Tepozteco and Las Lagunas de Zempoala. Zoos and parks like Zoofari and Jungla Mágica can also be ideal hangouts for those looking to be outdoors. The Lake of Tequesquitengo is another popular tourist center that offers a lot of entertainment options and sports activities like scuba diving, parachuting and water skiing. For those who love golf, Morelos has many golf courses like Tabachines, San Gaspar and Santa Fe.
If you love both history and prehistoric cultures, the National Park of Palenque serves as an ideal stopover. You can see ancient Mayan pyramids, sculptures and even temples. Another option for tourists is a trip to San Juan Teotihuacan where you can catch a glimpse of the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. These pyramids tower over the ruins of a once huge city. The ruins of this city by itself constitute a remarkable sight. Standing back and gazing at the ruins, you will find it hard to believe that such a large city once stood in its place.
