Overview

The Gulf Coast, a land rich in diversity, scenery and history, encompasses the coasts of states that border the Gulf of Mexico. The states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida are the Gulf States.

Activities & Attractions

While vacationing in the Gulf Coast, make it a point to visit the Bernal Boulder or the Pena de Bernal, which is famous for being the third tallest monolith structure around the globe. It falls behind only the Gibraltar Rock and Sugarloaf Mountain, which are in Rio de Janeiro. This big rock that dominates the town's skyline rises to at least 248 m above the height of the rest of the town. The little trekking path to its summit is used by hikers and pilgrims alike. Midway to the top of the rock, you will find a small chapel. It takes about 90 minutes from the nadir to reach there.

The legendary El Museo Tuxteco museum is in the historic center of Santiago Tuxtla, Veracruz. You will find the Bernal Boulder near the little town known as Villa de Bernal. Some special creatures to keep your eyes open for while at Gulf Coast are the white bat and the Royal Toucan. The Gulf Coast is also home to the highest volcano of Mexico, the Citlaltepetl (also known as the Pico de Orizaba).

The El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Preserve is a 3 hours drive from Morelia. It is a 1.5-hour walk uphill to see the magnificent butterfly colonies. Mexico is known for its hot nightlife. People travel from around the globe to party in Mexican cities. From party towns on the beach, to high-class and luxurious night spots in Mexico City, you will be more than entertained in the Gulf Coast once the sun goes down.

Transportation

The Gulf Coast has a very systematic bus system that runs almost everywhere. On most of the buses operating in Gulf Coast, you will have to purchase even your return ticket at the start of your journey. If you choose traveling on cheaper bus lines, you will have to bear the inconvenience of extra passengers. Taxis are also another preferred mode of transportation in the Gulf Coast.
