Overview

Mexico City was established in 1325 and since then, it has been an opulent city, despite undergoing a lot of change during the subsequent centuries. Mexico is bordered by the United States to the north and Belize and Guatemala to the southeast. It is about 1/5 of the size of the United States. Mexico City hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1968 and two years later, it hosted the Soccer World Cup to symbolize the prosperity of a developing nation. This region is called the Federal District, which is shortened to DF; however, most people refer to it as simply Mexico. Mexico City is a microcosm of the entire country. With roots all the way back to the ancient Aztec capital of Tenochtitlán, of which ruins are still found in the city today, the huge, wandering metropolis known as Mexico City is at the heart of Mexico.

Attractions & Activities

Mexico City is worth discovering on foot because your path can lead to some surprising and pleasing discoveries, such as brilliant markets among the gray downtown buildings and towering statues .There are national reservoirs of folk arts from pre-Hispanic days displayed along the most avante-guard paintings from the 20th century muralists. Mexico City boasts a strong visual art tradition as well a thriving music and literature scene. Some of the places to be visited are the Taxco, Cuernavaca, Puebla, and Guanajuato. The government operates the national auditorium, "Auditorio Nacional, Paseo de la Reforma," which is the biggest music and entertainment venue in Mexico City. A traditional form of Mexican music, which may be best known outside of the country, Mariachi features groups of trumpet, violin, and guitar-playing peddlers of music roaming the streets with singers to find a buyer for their tunes. The Zocalo is known to be the hub of cultural activity with live music and theater happening regularly.

Lodging

There are more than 46 thousand hotel rooms registered in Mexico City, of which 10 thousand belong to establishments holding a five star category or great tourism. Some of the major hotels in Mexico are Puerta Roja Inn, Hotel Marcial, as well as Hotel San Marcos, and the cost of accommodation starts from 30 USD.

Transportation

The main airport of Mexico City is called as the Benito Juarez International Airport. Several taxi services are available from here that take the visitors right up to their points of accommodation. Car rentals can also be organized; however, high traffic in Mexico City can be off-putting for most people. There are taxis with radios in them, which are good for security reasons. Such radio-featuring taxis can be booked through a local service. For people who are looking for economical and fast travel, the metro railways are a good option. There are busses here but they don't stop at the passenger's will. Given the way they operate, there are four bus stations here, located at the corners of the city and then networked to reach out to all regions of the city. All transportation forms are meant to meet at the central point of the city, paraderos. Common modes of travel for tourists include busses, streetcars, and Turibus services. These transport systems also carry guides to make the traveling easier for unfamiliar tourists.
