Egypt

With the Mediterranean to the north, Sudan to the south, Libya to the west, and Red Sea to the east, Egypt is one of the most populous African countries. Its archaeological wonders have mesmerized tourists for centuries. Today the ancient wonders attract millions of visitors each year to the pyramids, temples, mosques and great monuments of the Nile Valley. Occupying the center of the Arab world, it has played a central role in the political situation within the region in modern times. The Nile River divides the country unevenly in two while the Suez Canal provides a third division with the Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt is famous for the Pyramids of Giza and Valley of the Kings, as well as the stunning diving resorts of the Red Sea. Most, from the pyramids of Giza to the astonishingly beautiful temples of Karnak or Philae, can still be visited today. The camel trains of the nomads and their homes near the mountains of Sinai are absolutely unique. Tourists can also enjoy diving in the cool beaches near the coast south of Suez. Most of the main dive centers are on the Sinai Peninsular at Sharm el-Sheikh or Ras Muhammad National Park. The majority of numerous cruise steamers on the Nile provide a very high standard of service. Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheik, located on the Red Sea coast, takes you through a magical underwater world of Technicolor fish.

Outside the big-city bustle of Cairo, Egypt offers a variety of interesting lodging options, from eco-resorts like Adrere Amellal Oasis in Siwa to the 19th-century Sofitel Winter Palace in Luxor. Arabia Beach Resort lets you explore the Red Sea marine life through its own coral reef. You can find all types of bars, restaurants and sports centers in Egypt. If you are ready to visit Egypt, just have a look of the official Web sites of Egyptian tourism.

In addition to public transportation, there are buses and fixed-route shared taxi and minibus services run by private operators. Vehicles normally wait at city terminals to obtain a full load, but there are frequent departures. Keep in mind that taxi fares are usually three to four times higher than buses. Cairo's suburban railways have also been upgraded to provide a rapid transit network, including Africa's first underground railway. You can very easily find buses and tramways, with first-class, second-class, and distance-regulated fares in the city of Alexandria.

Cairo

Cairo, the capital of Egypt, was founded in AD 969 by the Islamic Fatimid dynasty overruling the Roman and Islamic settlements. In Birqash, a small village 35 kilometers northwest of Cairo, you can see Egypt's largest camel market. The desert in Dahshur has 11 amazing pyramids, among them Red Pyramid and Bent Pyramid, which are the third largest pyramids in Egypt.
