Overview

Lebanon lies east of the Mediterranean Sea and shares borders on the north and east with Syria and to the south with Israel. It is a mountainous country with a fertile valley, called the Bekaa Valley, which lies between Mount Lebanon, Mount Hermon, and the Anti-Lebanon mountain ranges. This small country offers a wonderful variety of scenery and there are few other places in the world that can equal it in beauty.

Along the foothills and closer to the valley, visitors can find orchards and vineyards filled with grapes, plums, apricots, figs, peaches and olives. In the rocky and hilly terrain, these crops are often grown in terraces that are carved by hand from the sides of the mountains in order to develop arable land.

Activities & Attractions

Lebanon has several magnificent archeological and historical sites such as Anjar, Baalbek and the city of Byblos. The city of Beirut is another major tourist destination. Other important places to see are Beiteddine Palace, Deir El Qamar, Sidon, and the Holy Valley. The old town of Tripoli and village of Zahle are also important tourist destinations.

The Golf Club of Lebanon is the most popular among the five golf courses in Lebanon. With an 18-hole, par-71 course surrounded by the beautiful mountainside and sparkling Mediterranean Sea, visitors are spellbound by its natural scenery. The Golf Club also houses indoor recreational facilities along with dining facilities.

There is also ample opportunity for scuba diving, snorkeling and sailing. Resorts and private pools offer special membership facilities for guests. Tennis and horse riding are also very popular and you will love the wonderful Arabian horses available at the Equestrian Federation member clubs in Lebanon.

Lodging

A variety of lodging facilities are available in Lebanon ranging from expensive resorts with all the amenities to cheap bed and breakfast accommodations. If you would like to experience something more unique and slightly extravagant, then you can utilize any of the available apartments or self-catering mountain chalets. For more information on accommodation in Lebanon, visit the websites found below in the resources section.

Transportation

Service taxis are the best means of transportation for tourists in Lebanon. They are cheap, reliable and cover most of the important tourist destinations. Bus services are also available but are limited. You can also hire cars from reputed car rental companies, many of which offer them at reasonable rates. To fly in and out of the country, use Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.
