Overview
Oman, officially known as the Sultanate of Oman, is one of the Middle Eastern countries and is largely a desert land. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates, while the coastline is formed by the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Muscat is the capital city of Oman.
Much of the wealth of Oman is generated from the export of oil, gas and minerals. Though the citizens of Oman have a comfortable living standard, but a scarcity of water can at times make life difficult. The Strait of Hormuz is a sea passage between Oman and Iran through which most of the world's crude petroleum trade takes place and this has lead to an acknowledgement of the strategic importance of Oman by the international community.
