Overview

The city of Tel Aviv-Yafo, commonly referred to as Tel Aviv, is the second largest city in Israel and also the most expensive in the Middle East. The city is situated on the Mediterranean Coast. The name Tel Aviv means "Spring Hill."

Excellent weather conditions and a cosmopolitan style of living are some of the features that make Tel Aviv an attractive tourist destination. In fact, Tel Aviv has been voted as one of the top tourist destinations by the New York Times and the New York Magazine.

Attractions & Activities

Tel Aviv has a variety of attractions ranging from parks and museums to upscale shopping malls and markets. Among the most popular museums are the Jabotinsky Museum, the Museum of Antiquities, the Jewish Diaspora Museum and the Rokach House Museum. The Hayarkon Park is the largest public space in Tel Aviv. The Meir Garden and Dubnow Park are some of the other famous parks in the city. The old city of Jaffa, which is home to stunning stone buildings, ancient churches, and the quaint port of Jaffa, is another choicest destination in Tel Aviv. The Memorial Garden to the Fallen, the Port Area of Yarkon Estuary and the Azrieli Observatory are also highly recommended for the tourists.

If you want to go shopping, then the Bezalel Market, the Carmel Market, and the Nachalat Binyamin Pedestrian Mall are some of the best places you can visit. The city of Tel Aviv has a rich offering of cultural activities as well. Theatre, art, music, and cinema are only some of them. If you are sporting enthusiast, then you will be interested in basketball, soccer, tennis, and shooting ranges. Water sports include kayaking, surfing, sailing, swimming, and diving. You can also enjoy the diverse and wonderful cuisine offered in many hotels and restaurants at Tel Aviv.

Lodging

You will find popular chains of high end international hotels such as the Hilton, Isrotel, Crowne Plaza, Sheraton, and Dan. However, those tourists who may be restrained by budget can find cheaper accommodation as well.

Transportation

There is an excellent bus service operating throughout the city of Tel Aviv and the service is cheap and reliable. You can also hire a taxi to get around the city. Shared taxi services are also available that allow passengers to get on and off at any point during the travel. You can also hire a car through any of the well known car rental companies.
