Chile Vacations

Overview

The Republic of Chile is in South America and is lodged between the magnificent Andes Mountains and the vast Pacific Ocean. The location of the country is one that will gift the holiday-maker who is out on a vacation to Chile many incredible views. The area surrounding Chile includes the countries of Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and the region of Drake Passage. Chile has a coastline of over 6,000 kilometers, which makes the country a great vacation destination. The popular Easter Island has been given the status of special territories of Chile and Santiago is its capital city.

The history of Chile is interesting in its own right, starting with the story of the migrating Native Americans. These Native Americans came and settled in the area approximately 10,000 years ago. The area also had a small Incan influence which traces its way back to the early years.

Chile was discovered by the Portuguese Explorer, Ferdinand Magellan. Just like the rest of South America, Chile was also part of the Spanish Conquest. One of the most important Spanish colonies, the country gained it's independence in 1818.

Activities & Attractions

While there are multiple reasons for people to look to Chile for their vacation, there is one incredibly popular site: Easter Island. Easter Island is one of the most well known islands in the world, famed for the giant monumental heads made out of stone. Labeled "moai" and believed to have been the work of the Rapanui people, most of the people are uncertain as to how they got there or who made them. These heads have played a very significant role in pushing Chile to the spotlight in the tourism industry. Along with the other Pacific jewel Juan Fernandez Islands, the fabled Easter Island has been declared as a National Park. Once you arrive in this country of startling contrasts, you will find yourself enchanted by the snow-capped mountains, hot bare deserts, and creamy inlands, all interspersed with one another.

The area of San Pedro de Atacama abounds in Incai architecture. The Altiplano and the Chungara Lake are equally popular with tourists. Chile also has multiple national parks and a dozen other interesting areas to see.

Lodging

Try to benefit from the seasonal discounts that are offered by the hotels, motels, resorts, and other lodging facilities in the area. It is better to avoid the peak seasons like Christmas, New Year, and Easter as it is likely that the rates of the lodging facilities go higher during these times. There are many bread and breakfasts, cabins, holiday inns, and more in terms of accommodation. You also have luxury hotels like Hyatt Regency, Ritz Carlton and more available to you.

Transportation

Chile has national and International airports for those who are looking to get into Chile as well as for those who want to get around the country. Busses are a reliable means of transport for over-night trips and they are inexpensive too.
