Ecuador is one of the famous countries in South America and has an interesting culture. Ecuador makes an incredible vacation destination that spans over many South American countries. The Galapagos Islands have become an incredibly important part of tourism for Ecuador. People are exhilarated to explore the Galapagos because the theory of evolution first originated in the Galapagos Islands. Charles Darwin came to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador and it was here that he eventually proposed his theory of evolution and natural selection. The Galapagos Islands comprises of 17 Islands that are inhabited by a varied set of wildlife comprising of amazing flora and fauna. The Galapagos Turtle is most famous of the animals found in this place. Approximately, 97 percent of the area is comprised of the national park.
Tungurahua is an active stratovolcano on the island, which remains covered by snow throughout the year. It has a 600 feet wide crater. It is also known as the "Black Giant." The other attractions, such as the Museum of Anthropology and Contemporary Art, are worth exploring.
The Galapagos Islands offer plenty of activities to keep you busy. Apart from sightseeing, you can indulge in trekking, mountain climbing, hiking, horseback riding, and scuba diving. There are also many beautiful beaches where you can relax or play a match of volleyball, go swimming, and also leisurely sunbathe.
When in Puerto Ayora and around the Santa Cruz Island, visit the Charles Darwin Research Center, explore the lava tunnels in the highlands, and see the Galapagos tortoises in their natural habitat.
