Overview
Paraguay is more popularly known as the Republic of Paraguay. Despite the fact that it is comparatively small in area, Paraguay is one of the most well-known countries in South America. The countries bordering Paraguay include Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia. Interestingly, the country has two different official languages, the major one being Spanish and the other being Guaraní.
Paraguay gets its name from the river by the same name that runs through the middle of the country. Though the country was explored by Europeans, it was actually the Spanish who founded the country, including the capital city, Asuncion. Paraguay emerged as an independent country in the year of 1811, when it managed to overthrow the local Spanish administration. All these different events, including that of the Spanish founding its capital city, have in a way affected the regional culture of Paraguay.
Activities & Attractions
The country with varied geography and tropical climate invites tourists from all over the world. Paraguay River divides the country into two regions, The Eastern and the Western Regions. Each of these regions has varied attractions for its visitors. The cultural diversity is supported by the varied surviving ethnic groups, Guarani being the most important.
Asuncion, the largest city in Paraguay and a historic downtown, is an area where you can try your hand at a whole lot of activities. The quite, old architectural attractions preserved here are the cathedral, Lopez Palace, and the House of Independence. There are also huge shopping malls, restaurants, and hotels of the modern world. Encarnacion has many natural attractions and is declared as a Treasure of Humanity by UNESCO. Ciudad del Este is a best place to shop things at cheap prices and Villarrica is another historical site.
From the National Pantheon of Heroes, an attraction that brings in many people, to the Godoi museum and the Church of La Encarnacion, everything is appealing. The area presents a vast number of sporting opportunities for the visitor to explore.

Transportation
Though transportation in Paraguay is easy and there are various modes of transport facilitating you to get to different places, the infrastructure is not well-developed. The port in Asuncion enables people to get into the country. Busses are the most common mode of public transportation and enable you to travel to the major cities in the country.
