Uruguay Vacations
Overview
Uruguay is the second smallest country in South America and more than half of its residents live in its capital, Montevideo. Uruguay shares its only land border with Brazil to the north and lies east of the Uruguay River, northeast of Rio de la Plata, and northwest of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Uruguay River has played a major role in transforming the country into a large trading center. This has helped not only in bringing wealth to the country, but also has positively impacted its culture. With everything from museums and shows to feasts and theaters, culture loving tourists will feel right at home in this South American country.
Attractions & Activities
The country plays home to a large number of tourists each year. One of the biggest reasons is Uruguay's more than 300 miles of beachfront access. The exquisite beaches leave visitors looking for a relaxing holiday with very little to wish for. Some of the most popular beaches include Miramar, Pocitos and Carrasco. Travelers can also enjoy Uruguay's hot springs, casinos, nightlife activities, and art festivals. Most of the hip clubs and high-end restaurants in the area showcase a modern appeal.
If you want to catch a glimpse of the older times of the country, head away from the center Montevideo to old town Ciudad Vieja. This small peninsula area, in spite of the fact that it houses a number of modern buildings, has numerous antique shops where you can spend hours browsing ancient artifacts and buying historical pieces.
Other tourist destinations in Uruguay are Parque Nacional Santa Teresa, Museo del Indio y del Gaucho, Casa Pueblo, Punta del Diablo, and the River Delta. With flowing meadows and rolling rivers, the landscape of Uruguay begs to be explored.
