Overview

If you are tired of frigid temperatures and have practically forgotten the warmth of the glowing sunshine, then book your next vacation to the South Pacific. The lush tropical surroundings will chase those winter blues away and put a smile on even the gloomiest face! The South Pacific has gorgeous islands and is surrounded by the bluest ocean water imaginable. It is considered a paradise on earth, where every activity and accommodation will meet the expectations of even the most discerning tourist. Located in this beautiful region are the island jewels of French Polynesia, one of the most famous tropical destinations in the world. French Polynesia was once referred to by Captain Cook as the "Garden of Eden."

The Europeans had long sought to colonize the South Pacific region in general and French Polynesia in particular. France eventually gained a stake in the country and in 1880 declared the islands as overseas territory. Recently, French Polynesia was named an Overseas Country, which means that you can have a glimpse of French and European culture right in the heart of the South Pacific.

Activities & Attractions

French Polynesia has been famous as a honeymoon hotspot for years. The islands have plenty to offer and every individual can find something to enjoy a perfect vacation. You can plan a visit to Tahiti in June or July and participate in the famous Heiva I Tahiti festival, which features sports, parades, and lots of feasting. Art lovers may check out the Paul Gauguin Museum, which showcases several paintings and sculptures by famous French artists. The Pearl Museum is also a popular tourist attraction. You can see many beautiful pearls on display and also learn how these valuable jewels are made.

Besides all these attractions, the immaculate beaches offer a lot of recreational activities and water sports including diving, surfing, and hiking. Rangiora is the second largest atoll in the world. You must visit its lagoon, which is gifted with diverse marine life. It is an ideal destination for the divers as well.

Lodging

Accommodations in French Polynesia are diverse. You can choose anything from the most luxurious honeymoon suites to the economical, budget-friendly rooms. For an ultimate French Polynesian experience, book a stay in an overwater bungalow. If you are looking for a hotel that is located near an excellent beach, check out the Sofitel Moorea Beach Resort (prices available on request).

Transportation

Flights to French Polynesia leave everyday from Los Angeles and Honolulu on most major airlines and at a reasonable price too. Once on the islands, taxis and car rentals are plentiful and are a convenient way to get around. You can also check with your hotel or resort for the free shuttle service, generally offered by most of the accommodations.
