Niue Vacations
Overview
Niue is a tiny island located in the South Pacific Ocean and is about three hours journey from the eastern coast of New Zealand. First inhabited by the migrating Cook Islanders, the name Niue can be translated to "behold the coconut." Niue became a part of the United Kingdom in the 19th century to protect itself against colonization by American and French forces. It was annexed to the neighboring country of New Zealand. In 1974 Niue became one of the world's smallest self-governing countries, with strong ties to New Zealand. With over a quarter of the country's land devoted to virgin rainforests, and the human population of the country outnumbering that of the whales, Niue is truly an isolated paradise just waiting to be explored by intrepid travelers.
Activities & Attractions
Niue is best suited for outdoor enthusiasts, as there is no limit to the outdoor activities that are available here. Caving and snorkeling are amongst the most popular activities on the island, while dolphin and whale encounters make up a fun afternoon on the crystal blue ocean waters.
