Overview

The city of Anaheim is named after Saint Anne and was initially spelled as Annaheim. Later, it came to be known as Anaheim. Germans, who wanted to cultivate grapes for the purpose of brewing wine, migrated to this area over 150 years ago. "Heim" means "home" in German, so the name Anaheim stood for, "a home by the Santa Ana River."

Anaheim is located in central Orange County, California, and is the 2nd largest city in the county. The city (along with Orange County) is often referred to as the "OC." Anaheim's population is around 350,000 and it is spread over 50 square miles.

Activities & Attractions

There would be very few who have not heard of the fabled Disneyland, the American theme park. The ticket costs around $94 for adults and $84 dollars for children in the age group of three to nine years old. If you fancy visiting the Disneyland part alone, the prices are comparatively cheap at around $69 and $59 respectively. Tourists to Anaheim can look at multiple days' discounts and packages that include lodging. You can relax and enjoy about 42 miles of beaches. To have some real fun on your vacation, you can drop in at the strings of nightclubs dotting the city. The dozens of museums in the city will give you more insight in to the city's history and culture.

You can find a variety of lodging facilities ranging from five-star hotels for the luxury seeking vacationer to youth hostels too that will suit a budget traveler in the city. The hotels near Disneyland and the other popular attractions vary widely in their prices. Accommodation options like Budget Inns are cheaper than resort hotels like the Marriott. Anaheim also has RV parks for those who look out for the same, as well as several beachside spots where you can rent a full-service apartment. Many people who travel to Disneyland purchase packages that provide access to the parks as well as provide lodging facilities along with meals.

Transportation

LAX is one of four airports that serve Anaheim. The city is connected with California by means of airport shuttles.
