Boston Vacations

Overview

One of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston is often recognized as the location of the famous Boston Tea Party. It is the largest city in Massachusetts and also serves as its capital. Quite popular among tourists, Boston is visited by over 12 million visitors annually. It is home to many renowned educational institutions. Boston serves as a stopover for visitors to the entire New England area. An economic and cultural hub, the city is sometimes considered as the "capital of New England."

The history of Boston dates back to long before the Boston Tea Party. The peninsula was inhabited as early as 5,000 B.C. which is proved by some of the archaeological sites showing prehistoric Native American remains that were excavated from the place. The first Bostonian, one Mr. William Blaxton, of European lineage, was documented to have settled in the area in 1625. He is said to have lived alone and sold some land to settlers in 1629 around the areas now known as Boston Common and Beacon Hill.
