Celebrated as the 9th largest city in the United States and the 3rd largest in Texas, Dallas has a population of over 1.2 million people. Though founded in 1841 on the banks of Trinity River in northeastern Texas, it is now the largest city in Texas after Houston. Dallas was not actually incorporated as an official city until February 1856. The primary economic center of Dallas is the metropolitan area that includes Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington, which have a collective total population of around 6.1 million people.
