Delaware Vacations
Overview
Claiming its position as one of the most historically significant states in the United States of America, Delaware has played a crucial role in the formation of the country. This state was officially proclaimed as the first state in the U.S. because it was the first of the 13 New England colonies to affiliate itself to the new Constitution of the United States in 1787. Hence came the city's logo - "It's Good to be First."
Delaware takes its place among the smallest states in the country. With its land measuring approximately up to 2,000 square miles, it's less than half the size of Los Angeles County in California.
Activities & Attractions
The Delaware Museum of Natural History in Wilmington is a highly sought-after tourist spot, featuring skeletons of life-sized dinosaurs, workshops that teach you to identify birds, and other exciting exhibits and attractions. Visit the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse in Lewes. Built ion 1901, it's the only lighthouse in Delaware that still operates today.
You can admire the beauty of the Wilmington Square housed in the Delaware History Center, which is made up of six historic homes. Located at the vicinity of the Delaware River, the folk museum in the Port Penn Interpretive Center provides information on fishing, trapping and hunting, as well as local sports.
Delaware also offers many golfing and sports parks such as the Viking Golf Theme Park in Fenwick Island and guided kayak eco-tours in Dagsboro, where you are allowed to kayak through the marshes and catch sight of the native wildlife and foliage. Tours with Coastal Kayak cost about $50 per day.
Lodging
Naturally, historic inns are the preferred lodging option when you stay at such a historically significant place. The cost for one night at a historic inn, complete with the basic set of amenities can range from $150 and above, but budget-friendly motels and hotels can start at about $75 per night.
