Kauai Vacations

Overview

Kauai is located at the northwest end of the Hawaiian major islands. Kauai is called the Garden Island, thanks to the lush rainforests that cover it. The shape of this island has extensively changed due to erosion, which has resulted in beautiful canyons and waterfalls. The island also features more sandy beaches than any of the major Hawaiian Islands that are open to tourists.

The ambience of this island is engagingly different from the other isles of Hawaii. In addition, Kauai is also considered to be the birthplace of the Hawaiian sugarcane industry.

Activities & Attractions

Beaches are, obviously, the primary reason why people visit the island of Kauai. There are many things to see and do on Kauai, including swimming, surfing, cliff diving, and scuba diving. The Huleia National Wildlife Refuge offers beautiful views and an exotic backdrop to photograph native birds and animals. The island also houses the Wailua Falls, which is a triple waterfall. Interesting places you can visit in Kauai are Lydgate State Park, Old Koloa Town, Opaekaa Falls, the National Tropical Botanical Garden and Kilauea Point Lighthouse. You can go hiking and camping in the canyon in the Koke'e State Park.

Lodging

Before you make reservations for your accommodations, plan them properly. The windward side of the islet gets a lot more rain, so don't choose to lodge there if you wish for a sunny beach getaway. Location has a strong impact on the pricing of your accommodations. Ocean view units cost a lot more than non-ocean view units. Resorts or condos that are further inland are more economical. You can also camp when you vacation at this islet, which features a number of county parks and also a state park. You may need to have a permit but they are fairly affordable. Some of the famous hotels in Kauai are Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa and Koa Kea Hotel & Resort.

Transportation

Lihue Airport is the main airport of Kauai, and is served by local airlines and nonstop flights from the west coast of the United States. There is also a deepwater port at Nawiliwili that facilitate cruise ships. Norwegian Cruise Lines offer short cruises between the islands that start and end in Honolulu, and these cruises stopover at Kauai.

It's a fairly large islet, and the best way to take a tour of it is by using a rental car. Do check for restrictions when you visit places on this island. Otherwise, you might be penalized for trespassing. You can also travel around the island by bus or bicycle.
