Louisiana is located in the southern region of the United States of America. Its capital is Baton Rouge and largest city is New Orleans. From the exhibits on Cajun influence to the haunts of New Orleans, the state has a lot to offer to tourists. Native Americans were the original settlers of the area, but Louisiana has also been influenced by the French, Spanish, Caribbean and African culture, thus creating a new sub-culture called Creole.

Louisiana is characterized by its combination of Creole and Cajun cultures. You can expect a vivid and rich experience as you traverse the state, seeing all its unique history unfold before your eyes. The combination of seafood and music will likely make your meals in Louisiana entertaining and rich in diverse flavors. If you want to experience its mysterious, vast wetlands, be prepared to go swamping or canoeing in bayous to see the old sugar and cotton plantations.

McIlhenny Tabasco factory and an eight-mile deep salt dome embedded with subtropical jungle flora are sure visits while on Avery Island. Natchitoches, the oldest city in the state, brings you close to old mansions along the Cane River. You can also visit the great River Road Plantation as you travel from New Orleans to Baton Rouge.

The state celebrates more than 400 festivals a year. A few fun and interesting ones are the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, Festival Acadiens et Creoles, Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival, the Zwolle Tamale Fiesta, Louisiana Folk Life Fest, Natchitoches Meat Pie Festival, and the Louisiana Cotton Festival.

New Orleans

New Orleans is located in southeastern Louisiana on the Mississippi River Delta. Famous for its unique architectural styles that reflect the city's historical roots and heritage, there are many interesting places in New Orleans for adults and children. Aquarium of the Americas is a world-class aquarium that allows its visitors to explore underwater nature first hand. The Audubon Zoo and Louisiana Children's Museum are other attractions the whole family can enjoy. You can also visit the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge and Jean Lafitte National Historical Park for more outdoor fun.

Another interesting place to visit in the city is the Musee Conti Wax Museum. While there you can see life sized wax figures of famous people from New Orleans and Louisiana. To learn about American history, visit the National World War II Museum.

New Orleans is world-famous for its food and dining experiences. The indigenous cuisine is distinctive and influential, having developed from an amalgamation of the various cultures in the state. Bed and breakfasts are available for those who wish to stay in New Orleans while maintaining all the comforts of home. Hotels and resorts are also available for every budget.
