Overview
Maryland is a state situated in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States of America. It is located off the Atlantic Ocean and bordered by Delaware, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, and Virginia. The diversity of the land is especially noteworthy. It offers plenty of variety to suit varied tastes ranging from the sea to the mountains, rural to the urban, and the past to the present. It is sometimes referred to as "America in Miniature" since it has a taste of all cultures and could be considered the second melting pot of the United States, after New York City.
Activities & Attractions
The most distinctive feature of the coastline is Chesapeake Bay, known as the largest estuary in the United States. The eastern shore includes many more attractions like historic towns, beaches and other natural areas. A host of sailing and fishing sports are also carried on in the Chesapeake Bay area. Solomons Island, located on the Chesapeake at the mouth of the Patuxent River, is a small historic town and a popular destination.
The beaches of Maryland are very popular in the summer. Deep Creek Lake, which is the largest fresh water lake in Maryland, is perfect for an afternoon of fishing. Other prominent tourist attractions are the Jolly Roger Amusement Park, Antietam National Battlefield, Allegheny Mountains, Applewood Farm, Antique Station, and the National Mormon Temple in Kensington.
Another wonderful attraction is the Assateague Island National Seashore, where you can indulge in beach camping. Other activities include jousting, duckpin bowling, golfing, hiking, hunting, fishing, boating and crabbing. For winter sports fun, try Bear Claw Snow Tubing Park at Wisp Resort.

A wide variety of accommodation facilities are available in Maryland to suit the requirements of different kinds of travelers. They range from expensive hotels to budget inns and from cheap bed and breakfast places to vacation rentals.
Transportation
Most cities and towns are connected in Maryland by excellent roads. There is also a large network of buses available to reach most of the tourist destinations. You can also hire a car from any of the well known car rental companies. Limited train service is also available to certain destinations within Maryland. You can also use the Metro or Light Rail services.
