Overview
The Maui Island is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands and has the third highest population. It offers travelers the beauty of a small town combined with sophistication and world class amenities.
Maui is known for its amazing landscapes and the beaches have been voted among the best in the world. Haleakala dominates the east side of the island and the Haleakala Crater is a spectacular treat for all. To the West is the West Maui Mountains, which are the remnants of an extinct volcano.
Activities & Attractions
The Maui Ocean Center, a state-of-the-art aquarium and marine park, is one of the best attractions on the island. Other great places to visit are the Polynesian Cultural Center, the Sugar Cane Train, and the Kaeleku Caverns, which is one of the world's largest cavern systems. The Hale Kohola Museum, the Whale Center of the Pacific and the Whalers Village Musuem are some of the other places you should not miss. Maui is also home to a rich history of the arts. A couple examples of great places to experience enchanting exhibits of Hawaiian arts and crafts are the Hui No'Eau Visual Arts Center and the Hana Coast Gallery.
Maui also offers a plethora of activities on the land, air and sea. You can take air tours or attend a Maui luau. If you would like to see Maui by helicopter you can schedule a helicopter ride for memories and breathtaking views that will last a lifetime. One of the best helicopter tours is through the West Maui Mountains and through Molokai, which has some of the highest waterfalls in the world.
There are many other activities in Maui, such as the sparkling nightlife where you can experience authentic hula shows and enjoy delicious Hawaiian meals. The best that Maui has to offer may be the ocean, though. The humpback whales found in the 'Au'au Channel between the islands make it a leading whale-watching center. Some of the most popular ocean activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and open water kayaking.
Lodging
Maui provides several types of accommodation due to heavy tourist traffic. High-end customers can enjoy services and amenities such as spas, pools and first class restaurants in the islands many luxurious resorts. However, those looking for budget hotels and more moderate accommodations are sure to find competitively priced lodging.
Transportation
The public bus system is very reliable, inexpensive, and can take you to most of the important tourist destinations. There are also the more convenient taxis and private shuttles, but those are slightly more expensive. The best way to get around Maui, though, is to rent a vehicle of your choice through any of the reputed car rental companies.
