Minnesota Vacations
Overview
Minnesota is a state situated in the middle of the Western region of the United States on the shores of Lake Superior. Minnesota is famously known as the "land of 10,000 lakes." The word "Minnesota" is derived from the Dakota Indian word which means "sky-blue waters." The 3rd largest river in the world, the Mississippi has its origins in Minnesota. This state was included as the 32nd state of America in the year 1858. The history of Minnesota dates back to the ice age and some of the ancient prehistoric carvings by the early inhabitants have been found throughout the state.
When the Europeans first arrived in the 1600s, the Dakota and Ojibwe (also called Chippewa or Anishinabe) Indians were the inhabitants of Minnesota. By the 1860s, a large number of immigrants, especially Germans and Scandinavians, came to Minnesota.
