Nevada Vacations

Nevada, also known as the "Silver State," is located in the western region of the United States. The first settlement in Nevada n Genoa, near the Carson City, was called Mormon Station and the settlers were Mormons. Originally, it was a part of the territory of Utah but later became the territory of Nevada on October 31, 1861. The day is celebrated as a state holiday. The present name Nevada was adopted only when it became a territory.

The word "Nevada" comes from the Spanish, meaning the "snow capped." Known for the mining adventures of the past, it also became known for oil in 1954. In Nevada, gold far exceeds all other minerals in the production value. Today, the primary industry in Nevada is the casino industry, whose motto is "all for our country." Nevada's main agriculture is cattle and alfalfa.

Nevada is one of the most photographed ghost towns in the west. The Rhyolite Historic Site in the Nye County has the Bottle House, the old railroad depot, some concrete ruins, and the museum with artifacts. Rainbow Canyon in Nevada highlights rock art, geologic features, and resources. However, most people go to Nevada to enjoy the many casinos and resorts. This is the reason behind Las Vegas being the most visited city in the state.

Some of the natural recreational areas in the state include California National Historic Trail, Death Valley National Park, and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Activities like water sports, auto racing, biking, hiking, and many more are common just as in many other tourist spots.

The Nevada City inns and hotels offer everyone great choices for accommodation. The price ranges from $44 to $69 per night. Apart from the casinos that offer spectacular and elegant lodging, you can also find historic bed and breakfast inns, peaceful country lodges, and some of the oldest and most interesting hotels in the west.

The major source of public transportation in Nevada is the bus. There are many charter buses and public transportation buses throughout Nevada. The larger cities have more complex bus systems and smaller communities rely mostly on taxi service, which is also available in the large cities. Carson City has what is called "JAC" which stands for "Jump around Carson." It is a unique public transportation system that runs not only in the Carson City but also to neighboring cities as well.
