Overview

New Orleans is clearly the most recognized city in Louisiana, and after Hurricane Katrina a much publicized location that was once and is becoming once again one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. The cities historical roots get a lot of attention, but the great time that can be had there is why most people go there. It has been a cherished convention city over the years as big business and their customers love coming to New Orleans for the party life and maybe a little business, with learning and good music thrown in as well.

Activities & Attractions

The most popular area of the city is the French Quarter. It's the most visited area of the city with the biggest variety of activities, from the old-line restaurants to the clubs, with all forms of music, interspersed museums for cultural activities, and antique shops for a break from partying in the abundance of places to drink. Make sure you look for Bourbon Street for the nightlife experience. Try it out one time so you can say you did it!

The city is also a culturally rich area with a collection of museums for all interests including: the National D-day Museum, the Louisiana Children's Museum, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Contemporary Arts Center. The famous Creole food combined with all styles of music makes New Orleans known for its decadent partying. The abundance of 18th and 19th century architecture all over the city makes it quaint and touristy, though, providing an opportunity to feel like you're in that period.

Lodging

Quaint B&B's are mixed in with the party areas allowing you to get closer to the party action. If you find a balcony to watch the Mardi Gras activities, be prepared to show off as the partygoers expect it of the balcony crowds. You can get any type of hotel - from luxury to economical to bed and breakfast - which is sure to meet all your needs.

Transportation

Streetcars in the city provide a unique get-around-town experience. Many major hotels provide shuttle buses to and from the airport. During the night you may take a taxi but it will likely be a short trip at reasonable cost. Plenty of trolley cars and buses are available for travel both day and night. If you are staying near the French Quarter you can easily reach the tourist spots by walking.
