Overview

Ohio was named from an Iroquois word meaning "Great River." It officially became a state in 1803 and now has a population of approximately 11,353,140. Ohio borders many different states including West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky, as well as Canada to the North. It is clear from archeological evidence that nomadic people were the first to settle the area, followed by a series of different cultures and eventually the French, who ceded the land to Great Britain after the French and Indian War.

There are plenty of really great activities and attractions to enjoy in Ohio. Some of the most popular attractions are the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. There are also many incredible parks and recreation areas recommended by Ohio's Tourism and Recreation department. If you are an adrenaline junkie, you will surely enjoy the experience of the world record-setting roller coasters at Cedar Point Amusement Park.

Ohio is filled with different activities. You can find everything from pre-historic and Native American history to information on the Underground Railroad. Some of the most visited outdoor attractions are Eden Park, Buckeye Lake, and Headlands Beach. All of this and more makes Ohio an extremely popular destination for people who interested in relaxing vacations and outdoor activities.

There are a variety of options for lodging in Ohio. Bed and breakfasts are quite popular and a great option for people interested in something different from normal hotel accommodations. It is a great option for traveling because it cuts down on costs as well as the discomfort of traveling while on vacation. Of course, there are other options for people looking for more flexibility. You may go for public transportation or car rental services, both of which are quite affordable.
