Palm Springs Vacations

Overview

John McCallum settled in Palm Springs, California in 1884 and his home, known as the McCallum Adobe, still stands today. It is the oldest building in Palm Springs and has been made into a museum showing the area's history. Palm Springs is a desert community located in Southern California at the bottom of the Santa Rosa Mountains, surrounded by two other mountain ranges on the west and north. Its 108 degree temperatures in mid-summer and less than 6 inches of rain make it one of the driest hot spots in America, and the mild 70-degree days during winter prompt many people to visit.

Activities & Attractions

Palm Springs is famous for its golf courses, with several to choose from in the area. Some of the most notable resorts are Indian Canyons, Riviera Resort and Spa, and Mesquite Golf Club. The famous Route 66 goes through Palm Springs, and they celebrate its history with a variety of events and attractions that vary from year to year. Palm Springs also has a large cultural center with theaters, museums and shows designed for people of all ages.

Lots of outdoor activities like desert touring are available for those who want to experience desert life at its best. And, of course, Palm Springs is home to a number of exciting casinos, like the Spa Resort Casino, to fulfill everyone's gambling needs.

Lodging

Many hotels and resorts are available in Palm Springs with prices ranging from the very cheap to the exceptionally decadent. You can also find many budget friendly camping and RV parks, and there are even vacation homes to rent a day, week or month at a time. Many area hotels offer special military rates, and even some of the resort/casino accommodations are inexpensive.

Transportation

Palm Springs International Airport serves the area, as does a Greyhound Bus line and an Amtrak railway line. You can find dozens of rental cars, shuttles, taxis, limousines and chauffer services at the airport as well as at your hotel. You can travel by Amtrak to both northern and central California without having to travel through Los Angeles, making it a quick way to get to several destinations.
