Texas is the second largest state in the United States in population and land. Also known as the Lone Star State, it is located in the South Central Region of the U.S. Dallas is the largest metropolitan area in Texas as well as the fourth biggest in the country. Houston is the largest city in Texas and actually the fourth largest overall in all of the United States.

Texas is an extremely diverse landscape with regions of the state feeling much like both the Deep South as well as the Southwest desert. Historically, Texas is considered to be part of the American South with deep Mexican and Spanish roots, however many will also correctly categorize it as part of the American Southwest.

The Alamo in San Antonio, a legendary site where the Texas Revolution took place in the year 1836 is an important site in Texas. Another important site in San Antonio is SeaWorld San Antonio, the famous marine-themed zoological park. The Plaza Wax Museum is also located in San Antonio and consists of two attractions - Louis Tussaud's Plaza Wax Museum and Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Forbidden Gardens in Katy, an outdoor museum of Chinese culture and history is most impressive with the 1/20th scale model of the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Army. Hartman Prehistoric Garden has been set up to resemble the Cretaceous habitat, and contains fossilized tracks and bones. Moody Gardens is a spectacular attraction and consists of three "pyramids". They contain the world's largest aquarium, rainforest fauna and flora, and science exhibits and activities.

The most famous festivals in the state are the Plano Balloon Festival, State Fair of Texas, and Texas Rose Festival. Texas offers a wide variety of accommodation opportunities for its visitors. It suits all people whether they come on vacation or business. There are hotels, motels, bed and breakfast categories, guest houses, self-catering accommodations, caravan and campsites, inns, lodges and apartments.

The state has had troubles in transportation because of its large size. But there have been developments through the building of America's largest highway and railway. Common modes of road transportation and railways are used to travel across the state.

Dallas

Dallas is the ninth largest city in the United States and is the third largest in all of Texas. Dallas is right in the middle of the largest metropolitan area in the United States that doesn't have a link to a sea. The city's prominence arose from its early booming industries including cotton and oil. Dallas has long been a great tourist destination for many reasons. One of the main reasons that Dallas attracts so many tourists every year is its vast diverse city and country life. The tourism industry in Dallas is currently thriving and is largely due to the success of its professional sporting franchises. There are many great historic neighborhoods that are great for people interested in architecture and just learning more about the history of this great city.
