Wyoming Vacations
Overview
Wyoming is located in the Mid-Western United States and a great location for a romantic getaway or great family vacation. Many Wyoming locations are also designed to cater to the business person who wants a quiet setting away from home.
Also known as the Cowboy State, Wyoming is over 97,000 square miles of land filled with rangelands, mountain ranges, and prairies. As with many other areas in the United States, Wyoming was historically inhabited by Native Americans such as the Shoshone and Lakota tribes. A year after the railroad reached Cheyenne in 1867, the federal government established Wyoming as a U.S. territory.
Activities & Attractions
Yellowstone National Park is located at the headwaters of the Yellowstone River and is comprised of many lakes, canyons and mountain ranges. Yellowstone Lake and the Yellowstone Caldera (the largest supervolcano on the continent) are also located in the park. The other major park located here is Grand Teton National Park.
A United States National Monument, Devils Tower, is a monolithic igneous intrusion located in black hills that many visitors climb. Other places in Wyoming that would be fun to visit are Fossil Butte National Monument, California National Historic Trail, Fort Laramie National Historic Site, and Oregon National Historic Trail.
